December 15, 2017 by Mark Leave a Comment

Best miter sawOnce asked, what is a miter saw? The best answer, a controlled circular saw. The best miter saw on the market is widely debated. When looking at miter saw reviews there are many different types with different features. Dewalt, Makita, and Craftsman are three of the top brands available on the market and on the selves in most any hardware store.

As you would imagine, a standard miter saw is less expensive than a compound-miter saw, and a compound-miter saw is less expensive than a sliding compound-miter saw. How much you want to spend may factor into your decision. However, the most important aspect is the functionality. Therefore, it’s important to make sure you choose the type of miter saw that fits your needs.

The most popular brands include DeWalt miter saw, Makita miter saw, Hitachi miter saw, Bosch miter saw, and Craftsman miter saw. Which brand you choose depends on the features and type you require.

MITER SAW FEATURES

There are several features that are important when comparing miter saws include: amps, blade size, table extensions, sliding and flipping capabilities, and guides.

Amps measure power. Blade size is important because different projects require different size cuts. Blades average sizes are 8, 10, and 12 inches. Larger blades make longer cuts. Table extensions provide support and help ensure your cuts are accurate. Sliding and flipping capabilities allow you the ability to produce finer quality pieces, and guides help to keep you on point.

The features you choose will have an effect on the finished product you produce. Therefore, it is important to invest in a saw that fits your needs. You will use this tool repeatedly and you’ll want to enjoy your use. Remember, you are investing in the future when you invest in the best miter saw for the money.

TYPES OF MITER SAWS

Standard miter saw

A standard miter saw, or basic miter saw, accomplishes crosscuts; it has no bevel or slide. A standard miter saw is a great tool to have in the garage of a novice builder. It provides a fast and easy was to make cuts which are more accurate than those you would get with a hand saw.

The benefits of a standard miter saw are that they are both light weight and the least expensive of your options. The functionality of the standard miter saw makes it worth the small investment.

Compound-miter saw

Compound-miter saws include a miter plus a bevel. A compound-miter saw can have either a single or a duel bevel. A single bevel compound-miter saw can tilt to one side and some models tilt up to fifty degrees, positive. A duel bevel can make either a positive or negative cut up to fifty degrees. Duel bevels can make cuts in both directions and save time because you do not need to flip a piece when working.

A Craftsman miter saw provides a popular product from a trusted brand. The Craftsman 10″ compound miter saw is known for it’s perfect precision. Make the perfect cut with a carbide tip saw blade. Made from die-cast aluminum, this model is under 30 lbs. It’s a light weight option great for homes and beginning carpenters.

Dual compound-miter saw

A duel compound-miter saw creates crosscuts, bevel cuts, and compound cuts. The ability to make bevels in any direction, quickly, makes the duel compound-miter saw a favorite of those who spend a lot of time using tools.

The Bosch miter saw, model GCM12SD is a 12 in Dual-Bevel Glide. It features an ambidextrous trigger, an axial glide mechanism, and an Arbor lock button that holds the blade in place when changing.

Sliding compound-miter saw

A sliding compound-miter saw may have a single or duel bevel and a slide. Single compound-miter saws can make both basic cuts and compound cuts; they also bevel.

DeWalt dws 779 miter saw selections include a 20V 7 1/4″ sliding miter saw. The visibility and accuracy of this model make it a popular selection. DeWalt offers a three year limited warranty, one year free service, and 90 day money back guarantee.

Laser LED sliding duel compound miter-saw

Top of the line, a Laser LED sliding duel compound miter-saw is an excellent investment for professionals. Woodworkers, framers, carpenters, and other professionals require precision tools.

Hitatchi miter saw selections are available through most outlets. The Hitachi 12 in. Duel Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw with Laser has a 15 amp motor. It is one of several Hitatchi miter saws professionals recommend.

philips norelco sensotouch 3d Review

philips norelco sensotouch 3d Review

Philips Norelco just keeps at it. They have yet again provided us with a high quality shaver. If you’re not opposed to spending a bit more than what other electric shavers cost then we have the best electric shaver for men.

The Norelco S9721/87 feels as though it was crafted just for your face. It’s 3 heads work separately and in 8 different directions following the contours of your face while cutting 20% more hairs in one stroke.

Inside each head you will find V-track precision blades. Without the tugging and pulling of hairs the V-track precision blades trim hair so closely while giving a more comfortable shaving experience.

FEATURES

  • Cuts 30% closer than other shavers
  • 3-speed setting
  • Digital interface (tells you when battery is low, cleaning is complete, needing replacement parts, and travel lock indicator)
  • The SmartClean System cleans/lubricates/charges/dries your shaver.

Let’s get a little more skin deep with this product. Let’s talk the pros and cons.

PROS

You can dry shave or use gel foam. A few consumers have suggested that the dry shave feels better on their skin versus gel but your mileage may vary on this one.

This shaver comes with a 3-speed setting, which is great news to those with sensitive skin and that find high speeds too aggressive for their face.

Provides a closer shave than its counterparts. The closest you can achieve without using a straight razor. There is minimum irritation and it leaves your face feeling soft and smooth.

Its 3-rotating heads move in 8 directions cutting 20% more hair.

The battery life appears to be top notch. Lasting a lot longer than most with its lithium-ion battery. The only complaint by a few consumers were that they wish the display revealed minutes left as opposed to percentage left.

This shaver is also equipped with a travel lock feature preventing the shaver from accidentally turning itself on while on the move.

Provides a very quiet shave.

CONS

There is an initial 21-day grace period before you can achieve optimal results. Some consumers have experience needing fewer days than what the owner’s manual suggest, but to expect the full 21-days in order to not feel let down. If it doesn’t give you the shave you deserve once the 21-days has passed Philips does provide you with a return and refund promise.

Another flaw could be its cleaning station and I say, “Could be” because there seems to be a 50/50 on this. An even number of consumers have complained and complimented its cleaning station leaving it a “hit or miss.”

There were a few complaints about the trimmer not being attached to the shaver leaving it a nuisance and it can’t be stored with the carrying case.

This next flaw may not be an irritant for most but it is still noteworthy. The placement of the power button may get in the way depending on how you like to hold your shaver and can find yourself accidentally turning the power off as you shave.

The cost of this shaver is a bit pricey but makes up for it in quality performance.

IS THIS SHAVER WORTH THE HIGH COST

Without beating around the bush, yes! This shaver holds to its promises of providing a smooth clean shave and it does give a real close shave in comparison to other models out there. The battery life is excellent to where some consumers have mentioned that the initial start up charge lasted them nearly two weeks!

The cleaning station is a “hit or miss” because there is an even number of reviews I’ve read saying yes or no to the performance of the cleaning station.

The Philips Norelco Sensotouch 3d is also highly recommended for those with sensitive skin because the 3 speed settings allow you to choose what speed your skin is most comfortable with and the shaver doesn’t tug or leave razor burn, providing you don’t go too many days without a shave like most shavers suggest.
